My Pottery Story
Don Foubare
My ceramic journey started back as a senior in high school with an elective pottery class in 1973. Many thanks to a teacher, Mrs. Black, who took me under her wing and provided me the opportunity to really begin to learn and explore the craft.
Fast forward to my college years and again I had the good fortune to have two influential instructors, Deb Groth & Lars Husby who allowed me independent studio access to further hone my skills.
After lugging around various pottery equipment during a 49 year career in Health Care, I once again was exposed to ceramics by a retired physician/ potter by the name of Dr. Jim Stout.
He had built a wood fired Anagama kiln many years before he retired up on Lopez in the San Juans Islands of Washington state. He invited me to participate after I had retired as well.
After building a studio in the shed next to our home and installing an electric kiln, I have now embarked on a second career as a full time potter. My work is wheel thrown and hand built ceramics with some multimedia additions.
